Our "diplomatic corps" are people who are prepared to make themselves available to act on our behalf in one or more of these ways, from time to time:

  • Acting as master of ceremonies for a Cotlands function
  • Being present at an event involving or benefiting Cotlands
  • Promoting our cause to their corporate business associates
  • Being available for occasional photo opportunities involving the media
  • Assisting in any other way to introduce and promote our cause in their day-to-day activities

Imran is a true Johannesburg boy; he was born in Kagiso and raised in Azaadville. He attended Azaadville Primary School and he completed his schooling at Crawford College Benmore, with 4 distinctions.

Imran's passion for sport started at an early age, with two brothers who played tennis for Southern Transvaal junior teams and his father, Morris, a former Nottinghamshire and Transvaal Sacboc cricketer and later a selector for the national cricket team. At the age of 10, his talent and love for tennis led Imran to a tennis academy in Florida , USA to sharpen his skills.

Imran also developed an interest in cricket and soccer. At 13, he was selected for the Transvaal development cricket team and, at 14, he was chosen for the under-15 team, which was captained by the current Protea's captain Graeme Smith.

After school Imran enrolled at Wits University to do a BA in Dramatic Arts. While at Wits he performed in over 20 university productions, including "Venus", which focused on the life of the Hottentot Venus, Sarah Baartman. And in 2001, Imran toured the Czech Republic with the "Venus" production.

In 2002 Imran began working as a Sports Presenter/Anchor for M-Net Supersport. To date Imran's highlights include hosting the Cricket World Cup, English Premiership and Spanish football, African Champions League Soccer, IAAF Grand Prix and Golden League, as well as conducting profile interviews.

In 2004 Imran became a specialist cricket anchor and reporter for Supersport. Imran has also worked part-time as a talk-show and book review host for Channel Islam International (Radio).

Imran has been involved with charitable work for many years. In the early 1990's he was actively involved with The Nishtara Lodge and SANCA's anti-drug and alcohol abuse promotions and fundraisers. Imran mentored for "the Soze Project" a cultural exchange and theatre initiative with South African and American children. He has also worked as a volunteer for the international charity, Islamic-Relief, and undertook an 11-day fundraising tour with the organisation throughout the Bosnia Federation and Republika Srpska.

Imran is passionate about all forms of charitable work and believes that "those who don't share their time and valuables with the less-fortunate will never find contentment in life" . He also loves his sport and the idea that he gets paid to watch Premiership Soccer! But his biggest dream is to finish his Islamic theological studies.

When asked why he chose to be an ambassador for Cotlands, Imran says; "Often one comes across charitable institutions that have sincere intentions, but have an un-organised approach, working without much structure or direction. The flip-side is that some institutions are magnificent at marketing and have a silky smooth approach. But they have very little soul and don't have a true humanitarian ethic. I am glad to say that Cotlands embodies both these qualities. Cotlands are also deeply dedicated to alleviating the suffering of South Africa's youth, with a professional and organised approach. I would love to do as much as I can to help raise awareness for Cotlands and to learn from their tireless staff about what it takes to make a difference in this world. Keep up the phenomenal work Cotlands!"

Experience Khalil

2004-2005 marks the debut full-length album release from Temba's favorite sons Khalil. Tshepo, B-king, Kay & J of k are the soulful quartet that are bound to set South Africa alight, with their harmonious rhythms, intelligently naughty lyric's and some of the tightest production work to come out of any South African studio!

Khalil have collaborated with studio producer Ziggy to put out what is bound to be a massively successful 17 track album, featured guest artist's include, Aluta from the Pitch Black Afro album, Ill Scientist and Capsolys who had massive success with his debut single "How are things". Aside from working with some of South Africa 's hottest talent they also teamed up with British hit songwriter Adrian Zagoritis, who is part of the exciting Pigfactory production team which has produced for Britney Spears, Anastasia, Celine Dion, and Usher among many others.

In May 2004 Khalil's first single recorded at the their new record label, The David Gresham Record Company, was released as the lead single for the massively successful Big Black Presents Love Stories Book1 album. Khalil previously released the "Khalil" EP which featured the smash hit "Mama Said" and took the local R&B scene by storm.

"Experience Khalil" is the title of the new album and shows the groups growth and maturity as songwriters and performers. 17 new songs and two main goals, to entertain and to provoke all types of emotions.

The Story so far..

Born and raised in Temba, Pretoria , all four members are from music loving families and grew up in the church. Jackie, Tshepo and Bobson were raised by single moms and by their grandmothers.Kay is the only one from a nuclearfamily.

  • The actual group "KHALIL" was formed in 1995.
  • Tshepo aka Lyric came up with the name, which is Arabic meaning "a
    friend".
  • Bobson, who is the founder member, together with Tshepo, formed the
    ensemble.
  • A unique aspect about the group is that each member has their own vibe,
vocal style, etc, which when put together has resulted in their own unique sound.
  • Since formation - they have always performed together since, honing their harmonizing and song writing skills in the process.
  • The guys are very passionate about their music and always rehearse
    when they get together.
  • "What makes our live performances interesting to watch is that our
different personalities are reflected on stage. It's like every person in the
audience finds a character with whom they identify," says Jackie.
  • The guys are very religious and always say a prayer before a live
performance or a studio session, "We always invite THE LORD to be part of whatever we do. We are not 'model' young men, but we always do our
best to do the right thing", says Jackie who's other older brother is a
    pastor.
  • Way back when they were kids, they used to get such "stage-fright", they could not sing properly. Bobson could not even face the
audience .he looked the other way! The group was fortunate to have had supportive friends who always encouraged them to do better. One of
those special people was their #1 fan, friend, sister, and confidante: Tumi
Segoa, who passed away before the group's dreams were realized.
Through those innumerable live performances in their native TEMBA,
PRETORIA , the group managed to improve their confidence on stage.

KHALIL'S first big break!

Their professional careers started when they were discovered by Carl Eaton, who is now the owner of Intyme Inc (Management Company for Mandoza, Enny Smith etc.) It was their first attempt at trying to get a record deal. That was in 1995 - six months after the group KHALIL was formed. And things started moving forward from then on!

Ashley was born in East London , South Africa in 1968. He grew up in sight of the sea, with a brother and sister and two doting parents. He attended Selborne Primary and College, the latter established in 1879. A relentless reader, and writer, an unstoppable performer, and a natural musician, Ashley spent most of those years developing the talents that would eventually become a career.

He completed school at 17, and was chosen for the Rotary exchange programme. He spent 1985 studying in Australia, and promoting South Africa - a difficult task in the turbulent eighties. Enriched, and inspired, he returned to South Africa and enrolled at Rhodes University in Grahamstown. He spent four years there, and completed a Bachelor of Arts, and an Honours degree in the Dramatic Arts, under the tutelage of such writers as Andre Brink, and playwright Reza De Wet. He performed lead roles at the International Grahamstown festival over that time in productions such as COME BACK TO THE FIVE AND DIME JIMMY DEAN, THE CRUCIBLE and MIDSUMMER NIGHT’S DREAM.

A coveted bursary allowed him another year of study, at the University of Cape Town, where he completed a Higher Diploma in Education. Though his passion for the Arts was paramount, he indulged his love of teaching the following year by teaching English at Selborne College. He opened a Drama school in 1993 in East London, THE A.R.T. STUDIO, which gave inspiration to over 120 budding young actors and musicians.

The lure of stage and screen was too strong though, and Ashley packed the proverbial suitcase and set off to Johannesburg to find fame and fortune, just eight short years ago. His success in that time has been remarkable. A soap star, voice over artist, published author, screenwriter, and natural comic, he has captured the attention of critics and fans. His portrayal of an everyman mine captain, in the award winning South African soap, ISIDINGO, led to a best actor nomination. A prolific writer, his hilarious advertising campaigns, for MWEB and OUTSURANCE, in which he portrays atypical characters from South African society, has had the nation in stitches for over five years.

He has also recently published a book called The Love Letter, an inspirational and challenging work, has been compared by critics to Paulo Coelho’s work, and The Prophet, by Kahlil Gibran.

Buy "The Love Letter" online, "Proceeds from the sale of the Love Letter will come to Cotlands".

He has toured locally and internationally with theatre productions like HAIR, THE BUDDY HOLLY STORY, MOJO and AFRICAN TALES.

He has appeared all over the world in some of the biggest international advertising campaigns, and is renowned for his delicate and measured character portrayals. He has performed lead roles in international television series such as SOLDIER SOLDIER, THE BLACK VELVET BAND, and recently, THE SWITCH. A prolific voice over artist, with National Geographic and Discovery channel narration credits to his name, he has become one of the countries leading voices, in both radio and television.

His biggest film credit thus far, is STANDER, a lead role for which he received local and international critical acclaim.

Ashley is regularly called upon to address functions, and is an accomplished speech writer, with Government, and Standard Bank among his clients.
