Message from the De Beers Fund

The De Beers Fund thanks Cotlands for the privilege of partnering with this exemplary childcare organisation, and specifically with the Soweto Home-Based Care and Counselling Project.

Our doing so forms part of an annual corporate social investment undertaking that sees De Beers and its operations working with over 150 organisations throughout South Africa with investments in people and communities in whom we believe, in a country confident in her liberty.

De Beers has never regarded CSI as frivolous activity and has acted in accordance with a philosophy summed up in 1954 by then De Beers Chairman Sir Ernest Oppenheimer: “…the purpose of the company is to make profits for its shareholders, but to do so in a way that makes a real and lasting contribution to the countries and communities in which it operates”.

Funding received from these partners has provided us with a means to assist more children and expand our scope of service.

As a growing organization who’s services are reaching an increasing number of beneficiaries, sustainability has become an important issue for us. We have to ensure that the needs of the present generation are met, without compromising our ability to do the same for future generations. In partnership with the funders listed herein, we remain committed to filling the medico-socio-economic gaps in communities by providing a range of services to ensure food security, reverse the spread of HIV / Aids, create jobs and foster self-sustainability. To achieve this, we have ensured that all our outreach projects include food garden initiatives, income generating projects and educational components.
